Over winter break I began to read the highly recommended book (by young women within my christian circles) Redeeming Love, and yesterday I FINALLY finished it! (Once school picked up it was hard to stay engaged...) PHEW! it feels so good to finish a book! Overall I would say that i enjoyed it, despite the fact that the plot was long and drawn out (but that could be because of my lack of reading devotion...).
The book is based off the biblical story of Hosea and Gomer (In short: which represents God's loyalty to the flighty israelites (aka: us)...(I'm still reading Hosea, this could be an inaccurate quick-summary/analysis)). The story takes place during the gold rush in California and is about the relationship between the prostitute Angel and her devoted, Christ-following husband Michael.
Aspects I liked:
-Michael's example of obedience to God. Michael's loyalty and unconditional love towards Angel in their marriage is an example of how God loves us and how we should love those around us.
- I like the slow, intentional progression of Angel's coming to accept her need for a savior. The circumstances/happenings/relationships along Angels life journey prepare her heart.
- The ending was great (cheesy but great!). It showed how surrendering to God's will, being confident in purpose for His glory leads the characters to a fulfilling life.
Who would have thought you could learn these things from a romance novel....
